Women of Afghanistan

Since the October of 2021, the Asfari Institute has started, in collaboration with ELC Scholars at AUB, to organize a series of events that aim to empower women of Afghanistan. The Asfari Institute cooperated with FEMENA, lead by Sussan Tahmasebi, and sponsored a series of webinars with influential Afghan guest speakers that shared their valuable insight on the status of Afghan women after the Taliban took over. The videos for these recorded events can be found below.

In addition, the Asfari Institute organized a Nowruz day spring celebration for the Shamsi-Hijri New year whereby the broad AUB community participated. We continue to carry on our ongoing events for women empowerment in Afghanistan. Stay tuned for more!

My Voice to my Home, part 1

Women of Afghanistan have passed through a long history of struggles and oppression. After August 2021 and the return of the Taliban to rule the country de facto, danger and fear circulate the future of the women and girls of Afghanistan. Those women have demands to voice and fight for, nationally and internationally. In the light of the above, The Asfari Institute for Civil society and citizenship at the American university of Beirut is pleased to collaborate with FEMENA and organize a series of webinars titled “My Voice to My Home”. This initiative plans to give Afghan activists a platform to connect with the students of AUB and advocate for their demands.
