This books aims at giving an encompassing image on the traditional music in Syria. Traditional music is one one of the many domains of the non-material cultural heritage. The Syrian cultural heritage is distinguished by authenticity and considerable diversity, thanks to the rich history of the region, and to its location as a pole that has attracted to many civilizations that have passed across it or inhabited it.

The book, written by Dr. Hassan Abbas, program director at the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at AUB, comes within the framework of UNESCO's "The Emergency Safeguarding of the Syrian Cultural Heritage" project.
