Nowruz
March 28th, from 10:00 AM till 5:00 PM, West Hall, at AUB, ELC Afghan scholars celebrate Nowruz, a day that is celebrated, also known as Persian New Year, has been observed for more than 3,000 years as the victory of spring over darkness. Nowruz means new day, and it’s the beginning of spring for Persians mainly in Iran, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Kurdistan, Kazakhstan, and other Persian enclaved places. For Afghanistan, especially after the Taliban took over in August of 2021, winter has been dominating over the blossoming of spring for the people of Afghanistan and especially for its women. Nowruz has been different this year. The day of celebrating Joy and Laughter with rich aromas and colors and songs and dances has not been the same since the Taliban have de facto ruled again. So the students of AUB are celebrating this day, in hope of the victory of their spring over the darkness in the world.
