Location: Issam Fares Institute, Auditorium (Level B), AUB Synopsis: The MSFEA Urban Lab and the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at the American University of Beirut launched the book, "For the War Yet to Come" by Hiba Bou Akar, the assistant professor of urban planning at Columbia University. The writer argues that spaces for urban planning have become “post-conflict” battlegrounds for political and religious groups seeking to gain control of what they see as potential future frontiers. Location: Issam Fares Institute, Auditorium (Level B), AUB Synopsis: The book aims at documenting the Egyptian feminist movement through photos, posters, and articles published in newspapers and magazines. The book is divided into two parts: the first one sheds light on organizations and associations that were either formed by women or saw their participation; while the second part tackles some of the battles that women in Egypt fought. A panel discussion was organized for the book launch with the participation of one of the co-authors, Dr. Hoda Elsadda; Dr. Dina El Khawaga, director of the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at AUB; Dr. Lama Kahhal, assistant professor at the Faculty of Information in the Lebanese University; and Dr. Deema Kaedbey, co-founder and co-director of the feminist organization in Beirut, the Knowledge Workshop. |

The key questions addressed by these papers are: - What are the reasons behind the decline of the quality of university-level education? -What are the policies adopted to distinguish between science majors on one hand, and humanities and social sciences on the other? What is the status quo of scientific research? And what are the factors behind acquiring universal competencies. A panel discussion was organized for the book launch with the participation of Dr. Dina El Khawaga, director of the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at AUB; Dr. Ramzi Salameh, former senior specialist on Higher Education at UNESCO Beirut; Dr. Hassan Mneimneh, former Lebanese Minister of Education and Higher Education; and Dr. Adnan El Amine, professor at the Department of Education - American University of Beirut, and consultant at UNESCO Office in Beirut. |

The Syrian cultural heritage is distinguished by authenticity and considerable diversity, thanks to the rich history of the region, and to its location as a pole that has attracted to many civilizations that have passed across it or inhabited it. The book, written by Dr. Hassan Abbas, program director at the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship at AUB, comes within the framework of UNESCO's "The Emergency Safeguarding of the Syrian Cultural Heritage" project. |
